Eligibility and Referral
Eligibility and Referral
Sexual assault victim/survivors of any gender, ages 12 years and over, their families, partners and friends. WestCASA covers 5 Local Government Areas (LGA’s) the Western (Metropolitan) Region of Victoria including Maribyrnong, Hobsons Bay, Wyndham, Melton & Brimbank.
We have a two stage referral process.
People wishing to access our service are required to contact us by telephone to make a self-referral. The Intake Worker will gather some basic information such as name, address, and the reason for seeking counselling at this time. A face to face Intake Appointment will then be arranged so that an assessment can be made, relating to a persons current circumstances, safety and support needs and to see if this service is the best fit for the individual. People can chose to bring a support person along to the intake appointment. People who are suitable for the service will be placed on a relevant waiting list for support. Waiting times exist for our service.
We understand that making this first contact can be very difficult for some people and it may be easier to have someone else assist with this process. In this instance, we are happy to first speak to friends, family members or professionals about a facilitated referral process. This may involve us first speaking to the referrer about the person’s circumstances and then assisting them to facilitate the first contact with our service.
Our intake workers can be contacted on Monday to Friday between 9.30 am and 4.30 pm. There may times when our intake workers are experiencing a high volume of calls and therefore you will need to leave a message for the Intake worker to return your call. This may take a few days depending on the volume of calls already waiting.
